Red Light Therapy
Photobiomodulation (PBM)
Photobiomodulation (PBM)—sometimes called red light therapy—uses gentle red and near‑infrared light to wake up the energy factories inside your cells. Instead of heat or high‑powered lasers, PBM delivers low‑level light that your cells can absorb and use to work better. Research suggests this simple, non‑invasive therapy may help improve mental clarity and support recovery from stress, injury/disease, or aging.

How does it work?
Think of PBM as a “charger” for your brain, the way you have to charge your phone or laptop:
- Light penetrates your skin and skull—near‑infrared beams pass through bone and reach brain tissue.
- Cells absorb the light—mitochondria (the cell’s power plants) soak up the light and make more ATP (cellular fuel).
- Blood flow improves—nitric‑oxide release helps relax blood vessels, bringing more oxygen and nutrients.
- Repair signals switch on—mild oxidative signals prompt your body to repair and strengthen itself.
Put simply, PBM gives your brain cells extra energy and better circulation so they can perform at their best.
Is it for you?
PBM may be a good fit if you want to:
- Boost focus, memory and mental clarity
- Aid recovery from stress, concussion or mild cognitive decline
- Support mood alongside traditional therapies
- Explore safe, non‑drug approaches to brain health
People with photosensitivity, epilepsy or implanted medical devices should speak with their doctor first.

PBM on its own and as a complement to other services
PBM is versatile: it can be used as a standalone wellness modality or alongside other therapies. Here’s how:
On its own:
A series of PBM sessions can be used independently to support general brain health, boost energy, increase focus, promote relaxation, and aid recovery after stress or injury. Many athletes and wellness enthusiasts use red light therapy by itself to reduce inflammation and speed healing. The gentle light sessions can fit into a busy schedule and offer a relaxing “reset” between appointments.
To compliment other treatments:
- Synergy with brain training: Neurofeedback trains your brain by giving you real-time feedback on your brainwaves. PBM can prime the brain for this training by boosting cellular energy and improving blood flow. Clients report that using a Vielight headset alone provides a noticeable cognitive “boost,” and when combined with neurofeedback it has a synergistic effect that can accelerate progress toward treatment goals. The Center for NeuroPotential notes that combining light therapy with neurofeedback helps “boost the brain’s energy supply to learn and build new connections,” supporting neuroplastic changes.
- How we integrate it: We typically schedule a PBM session immediately before a neurofeedback session. The light therapy helps the brain reach a more receptive state, and then neurofeedback trains the brain to maintain healthier patterns. This combination may shorten the number of neurofeedback sessions needed and enhance overall results. PBM is safe and can also be used on days when neurofeedback is not scheduled to maintain momentum.
Bioresonance Therapy (BRT):
Complementary use: Bioresonance therapy uses electromagnetic frequencies in an attempt to identify and rebalance energy patterns in the body. While evidence for bioresonance remains limited, PBM may complement it by improving cellular energy production and reducing inflammation, creating a more supportive internal environment. Some wellness clinics pair PBM with bioresonance to help clients feel relaxed and to enhance perceived benefits.

Why we use Vielight Devices:
Not all light‑therapy products are equal. Vielight PBM devices stand out because they:
- Deliver powerful near‑infrared light that penetrates deeply into the brain.
- Use targeted wavelengths (around 810 nm) that mitochondria respond to best.
- Combine headset and intranasal applicators to reach multiple brain regions.
- Are backed by ongoing research partnerships with universities and hospitals.
Photobiomodulation is an emerging therapy that uses safe red and near‑infrared light to energize your brain cells. Early research shows it may improve cognitive performance and support recovery.
At Integrative Mind and Body we offer PBM as part of a holistic approach to mental wellness. If you’re interested in trying PBM, contact us—we’d love to discuss how light therapy could fit into your wellness journey.
